AlterUser is a speculative experiment that challenges the extractive model behind mainstream digital design. It allows users to navigate between different modes and observe how the experience shifts according to the designer's underlying assumptions. Today, data collection, algorithmic recommendation, business models, and interface design draw from neuro-cognitive-behavioral frameworks to maximize engagement; but if the goal weren't to keep us glued to screens, the "best practices" would likely be entirely different. Design is a precious tool for launching worlds into the world, and this experiment attempts to fable alternatives that transform the digital user into a character worth embodying.

This experiment is the result of my master's degree at the School of Communication and Culture at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
